Promoting Cultural Access for Everyone
On October 18, 2017 the Fathers Network, in partnership with 4 Culture, the City of Seattle Office for Arts and Culture and Arts Fund, held a facilitated conversation of arts organizations and family members who have family with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD). The focus of the conversation was on increasing access to the arts for individuals with I/DD as patrons, participants and administrators of arts organizations. The energy around the subject was very high and the commitment to making improvements was encouraging. If there was a disappointment it was that we did not have any self advocates/activist advocates accept the invitation to join us. We’ll keep working on that as we have further conversations.
2017 WSFN Family Event at Carnation Farms
This was the Network’s first time at Carnation Farm and what a GREAT time we had. Zip lining, archery, rock climbing, fishing, canoeing, lawn games, a dance party, family game night, a night hike, campfires with smores, and enough down time to reenergize. The accommodations were very comfortable and the food was amazing (farm to table). If you couldn’t make it this year I hope you can join us next year during the weekend of August 24-26.
