As part of being “A Powerful Voice for Fathers and Families” the Network advocates strongly and frequently regarding equal access to the community. Part of the community are cultural activities. In conjunction with 4 Culture, the City of Seattle Arts and Culture Office and Arts Fund, slightly over 30 individuals came together on October 18th to discuss how to increase access to the arts for people with neurodevelopmental differences. The group represented arts organizations large and small, parents and service providers. Access meant as a patron of the arts, as a participant and as administrators of arts organizations. The conversation was excellent, the energy was high and the commitment to making changes was encouraging. This was the first of what will be a series of conversations. If you’d be interested in joining us write to me at louis.mendoza@kindering.org. If there was one disappointment it was that no self advocate/activist advocate accepted the invitation to join us. We’ll keep trying because those voices are important to have at the table.
