King County Road Services Division recently completed a Draft Americans with Disabilities Act Transition Plan, and want to hear from community members who travel on unincorporated King County roads to ensure that the plan reflects the public’s needs.

The King County Road Services Division is responsible for all county-owned roads, bridges, and related infrastructure – such as sidewalks, curb ramps and street crossings – in the unincorporated area of King County. These roads are located outside of city limits, in urban areas such as North Highline/White Center and Fairwood, and in rural areas throughout the county.

The Draft ADA Transition Plan identifies and plans accessibility improvements to the pedestrian facilities on roads maintained by the King County Road Services Division. The draft plan is based on engagement with members of the disability community and the broader unincorporated King County community, an inventory and assessment of existing pedestrian facilities, and an evaluation of county policies and practices.  The draft ADA Transition Plan fulfills the requirements of Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990.

More information and a link to the draft plan can be found at www.kingcounty.gov/RoadsADAPlan. Comments and requests for reasonable accommodations can be sent to John Vander Sluis at 206-263-0621 TTY Relay: 711 or at jvandersluis@kingcounty.gov. Comments on the draft plan will be accepted through March 22, 2021.
